Civility, Respect, and Engagement at Work
CREW is led by Dr. Michael Leiter and addresses civility, respect, and engagement in the workplace by taking a shared group-focussed responsibility for respectful behaviours.
Workplace hostility takes a huge toll on employees, deprives clients of quality service, and loses employers money. In response to widespread breakdowns in workplace civility, Michael Leiter and Associates established CREW Canada. This initiative recognizes the damaging impact of incivility on employees’ performance and wellbeing. It takes a vigorous, grassroots approach to enduring improvement.
Civility provides the infrastructure for teamwork. Small acts of kindness, compassion, or consideration provide a foundation on which team members build a framework for effective collaboration. Respect provides the communication network. The capacity to listen attentively to others, to appreciate their unique qualities, and to convey that appreciation allows people to contribute to a shared enterprise. Engagement gives life to the process. The active participation of colleagues in CREW and its community makes work an energizing, involving experience that builds confidence.
